Safeguarding Children

HEMPSALL CONSULTANCIES is a specialist early years and childcare consultancy. We deliver training for providers and staff across a wide range of areas including play activities, promoting positive behaviour, quality assurance, equal opportunities and race equality, partnership with parents, anti-bullying, business skills and working with volunteers. Additionally, we visit providers to provide quality mentoring support, on-site training, business skills/fundraising support, places development, organise placements for trainees and to consult with parents, workers and children for research projects.

We believe that every child or young person has at all times a right to feel safe and protected from any situation or practice that may result in them being harmed.

All relevant staff complete enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks, and carry photo identification at all times. Our practice is to always arrange visits to settings in advance and at mutually convenient times.

Hempsall Consultancies will:

• Appoint staff in line with rigorous procedures detailed in the Recruitment and Selection Policy;
• Ensure that all staff and associate consultants who work for Hempsall Consultancies are aware of the need to remain alert to any signs and indicators associated with child abuse;
• Provide regular training and information to ensure all trainers, mentors, consultants and researchers are aware of current child protection issues;
• Provide ongoing supervision and support for staff to ensure continual learning and development in safeguarding children;
• Work with providers to ensure that they maintain supervision of children and our staff at all times;
• Ensure that employees are not responsible for supervising children during their work;

If team members witness abuse, have concerns, or are given a direct disclosure by a child, or informed of abuse of any kind they should:

• Take seriously any concerns raised;
• Take positive action to ensure the protection of children who are the subject of any concerns;
• Write their concerns down as soon as possible and date and sign them and if someone else witnesses this action, ask them to sign also;
• Ensure that information is confidential;
• Inform James Hempsall as soon as possible. In the event that James Hempsall is not available, Sarah Langford should be contacted via the office.

If any childcare provider, customer or parent/carer has any cause to be concerned regarding the behaviour of a staff member of Hempsall Consultancies they should contact James Hempsall immediately on the contact numbers below.
